Schöne Stadt German Shepherd puppies are handled daily and are exposed to other dogs
and our two young children, along with different sounds and situations.
They receive regular dewormings and vaccinations. We begin feeding them moist kibble
around 3 wks of age. They will also receive occasional raw beef/chicken and raw goat milk
from our own dairy goats.
We recommend supplementing with Vitamin C to help prevent hip dysplasia. The dosage
to use is 500mg daily until 4 months old and then increasing to 1000mg and then to
2000mg daily until 18-24 months of age. Vitamin C is virtually harmless so don't be worried
about overdosing. It can cause diarrhea, if this happens just decrease the dose slightly.
Puppies should be taken off puppy food no later than 4-5 months of age and switched to a
high quality adult food. Pay attention to the ingredient list. Choose a food with the least
amount of fillers and Beef, Chicken, Lamb, etc as the main ingredient. We highly
recommend a raw food diet for your dog. There is much information about this diet on the
internet.
Do not allow your puppy to do any major jumping until he is fully grown as this could
damage his joints while they are still developing. Take your pup for short walks where he
trots or gaits instead of galloping; this strengthens the muscles in his hindquarter.
Swimming is the ideal exercise as it puts no pressure on the joints.
Socialization is EXTREMELY important for German Shepherd puppies. It's best if you can
join a training club or attend obedience classes. This exposes your pup to new
surroundings, animals, people, and sounds. If you cannot attend classes, then it is very
important to take your pup with you and introduce him to new places and people as this is
invaluable to his socialization.
